First tell us something about yourself ?
Hi my name’s Barry and i’m from Ireland, i studied animation at the university of derby and quite recently worked on self publishing my first children’s book Santa’s trip.
How and when your journey started as a writer?
First of all i am an illustrator which also happens to love writing stories, i would say my passion for writing started from a young age. I can remember being in primary school and my two favorite subjects were Art and writing stories in English which is still true in my adult life.
When did you write your first story? Is it published or not?
The idea for my book Santa’s trip started from a drawing I had done of Santa Claus at the dry cleaners, from that one picture I knew there was a story that needed to be told but didn’t quite know at the time what that story would be. This year during lock down I came across that picture and something clicked within an hour, I had the full story written. I illustrated all the pictures myself and used Amazon kdp to self-publish the book which is now available.
Tell us something more about your books?
I wrote, illustrated and published Santa’s trip within 2 months. I am currently working on my second book which I hope to have published in 2021. I will be adding sneak peaks of the book soon on my Instagram page barryrousedraws. feel free to follow me to keep updated on the latest projects.
Why do you choose kids as your reader ? Is there any specific reason?
I think one reason is I am still a big kid! The best stories are often written for children, there’s no limit to a child’s imagination and as a writer and illustrator it’s so much fun making stories up.
How did these stories and characters come to your mind?
I would say most of my characters and stories come from life experiences. The character in my story Santa is how I imagined he would look and act, i really love Christmas and always knew I would write a Christmas story. The whole story for Santa’s trip started from a quick sketch and ended up being the starting point of the story.
Do you want to give any message for your readers?
I would say if you want to be a children book author or illustrator just do it! Make it a passion project and give any free time you have to work on your book and don’t give up. Anyone interested in grabbing a copy of Santa’s trip can order it from amazon just search santa’s trip.
