Q: First tell us something about yourself?
I am an Indigenous Dakota Woman (knowledge keeper/elder) married on the Blood Reserve known as Kainai in Alberta Canada to Moses Spear Chief tribal member of Kainai. We are proud grandparents. I have my own private practice Healing Pathways EMDR counselling and specialize in working with complicated complex trauma due to our traumatic history of residential school, boarding schools, sixties scoop and more.
Q: How and when did your journey start as a writer?
When did you write your first story? Is it published or not?
This is our first book and we’re working on another book about clinical practice.
Q: Tell us something more about your books?
The story has Blackfoot words with hopes that linguistically one can state the words in their own tribal language and/or language.
Q: Why do you choose kids as your reader ? is there any specific reason?
Although this book is intended to inspire children and families to deal with “big emotions” in a more constructive way, Eagle Wings Flapping is unique in the sense that it breaks down EMDR protocols for anyone new to the concept – so it’s not just a children’s book. People of all ages can learn from this story.
Q: How did these stories and characters come to your mind?
The story is based on Blackfoot Napi stories. One day our grandchildren were visiting and lots was happening and the story came to life. The characters are based on our grandchildren and Eagle is the wise elder knowledge to support emotional regulation.
Q: Do you want to leave any message for your readers?
This is a tool that all individuals can easily learn to manage big emotions, triggers and more.
