Q: First tell us something about yourself.
I am a business owner. I own my own counseling practice, White Orchid Counseling, and I employ three amazing therapists. I am also Mrs. Illinois for The Galaxy Pageant system.
Q: How and when did your journey start as a writer?
I started it a few years ago. I wanted to make counseling normalized for children and decided to write a book with actual coping skills that have helped my clients.
Q: When did you write your first story? Is it published or not?
It is self-published. I have been writing it for over a year and just completed it.
Q: Tell us something more about your books?
Just Breathe follows a little girl named Debra and her journey to learn how to cope with her anxiety.
Q: Why do you choose kids as your reader? Is there any specific reason?
As a therapist, I feel that if we can normalize going to the therapist for children, we will have a world of much for healed adults. I want to make seeking therapy just as normal as going to the doctor for a check-up.
Q: How did these stories and characters come to your mind?
The little girl in my story is named after my daughter, Debra. The story came to mind after counseling kids and talking through some things that make them nervous.
Q: Do you want to leave any message for your readers?
The message is that going to therapy is okay and very normal. I also hope they can use some of the coping skills in the book to help them manage their own anxiety.
