Q: First tell us something about yourself?
Hello, my name is A. A. Kingston and I have raised, and am still raising, 7 children.
Q: How and when did your journey start as a writer?
For the last 20 years I have been happily preoccupied with all their needs, but with my youngest now in school I had some more free time and wanted to put it to good use. So I started writing!
Q: When did you write your first story? Is it published or not?
I have just published my first book, “You Can Choose You!” which introduces readers to 4 different children.
Q: Tell us something more about your books?
Each child has their own unique talents and interests. We as parents and caregivers have the opportunity to help and support young children in their journey to self discovery. What do they love, what makes them proud of themselves and what is it that fills their young hearts with joy? A child’s confidence in themselves is so very important. It is also important for an adult in a child’s life to “accept” as opposed to “expect” from a child. Just love them for who they are and what “THEY” love. The theme for this book actually came to me not so much in the idea of writing a book, but more in just putting down on paper what I was feeling as a parent of today’s children. There is so much static coming at children from every direction all the time.
Q: Why do you choose kids as your reader ? is there any specific reason?
I thought it would be nice to have something that children could read with their family or friends that was uplifting and positive; something that was supportive and inclusive. There are so many expectations of the children of today and I just wanted them to be able to read something that would comfort them and inspire them to have the confidence to be who they truly are and not who they are expected to be.
Q: How did these stories and characters come to your mind?
I wanted the characters to be inclusive and my greatest hope is that when a child reads my book they will see themselves in one of the characters. I wanted my characters to be diverse, hopefully really connecting with my readers.
