Q: First, tell us something about yourself.
I am a counselor, author, and school psychologist whose work is rooted in faith, resilience, and service. As a proud mother of three daughters—Willow, Willany, and Willay—I have had the privilege of supporting individuals ranging from ages 5 to 90 across schools and community agencies since 2005. Beyond my clinical work, I am a contributing writer for Moments for Moms Unlocked Magazine and the Moments for Moms Volume 4 Anthology. I also authored We Say, a children’s book designed to empower young girls through positive self-talk. Stepping into this new season as both an author and a school psychologist, I continue to embrace growth, purpose, and the calling God has placed on my life.
Q: How and when did your journey start as a writer?
I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember. I kept my first journal in the 1st grade, and by elementary school, I was already creating my own little books. I still remember the joy of winning our county-wide book contest in 5th grade—it was the moment I realized storytelling lived inside me. As an avid reader, I loved getting lost in the worlds authors created, and before long, I discovered that I could build worlds of my own. Writing has always been my safe place, my creative outlet, and one of the earliest gifts God placed in my heart.
Q: Tell us something more about your book series.
My book, We Say, is a bold and affirming children’s book that empowers readers to challenge negative comments and embrace their true selves. Through simple, bold statements, I teach kids how to flip hurtful stereotypes into powerful declarations of self-love, confidence, and belonging. Whether you are a parent, educator, counselor, or librarian, I intended for this book to be a meaningful tool for conversations about self-worth and resilience. It’s about celebrating diversity and the power of positive language for all age groups.
Q: How did you create the characters and the message behind your books?
I was blessed with a divinely excellent team that helped me shape the vision. My publisher, Juanita Woodson of Grace 4 Purpose Publishing Co., and my KidLit Specialist, Paula Banks, took the vision God placed in my heart and helped me bring it to life with excellence. By investing in their services and following their guidance step-by-step, I was able to translate my professional background in psychology into a format that resonates with children. The entire journey has been beautiful, purposeful, and truly aligned with God’s timing.
Q: Do you want to leave any message for your readers?
Your words are powerful and they matter! You have the power to speak life into others as well as yourself.
