Q: First tell us something about yourself?
My name is Daphnir C. Joisil, and I am a teacher and an author. I studied Psychology and Spanish for undergraduate studies and Early Childhood Education for my master studies. Prior to teaching, I worked in a clinic for Physical, Speech, and Occupational therapy, where I have seen many cancer patients, adults and children.
Q: How and when did your journey start as a writer?
I started writing stories in both Creole and French when I was a child. I had a wild imagination as a child and I would make up many stories.
Q: When did you write your first story? Is it published or not?
I wrote my first story when I was a Sophomore in High school, but I never published it. In fact, I have so many stories now from just writing and saving.
Q: Tell us something more about your books?
The Heroic Adventure of Milo and Dino aims to encourage children of any age and background to make a difference in their community and others’ lives. This story is about children raising funds for other children with cancer. This book is teaching children to help others and not just for children with cancer but with anything.
Q: Why do you choose kids as your reader? is there any specific reason?
I’m a teacher and I share the love of reading with my students and I love children’s stories. I also want to provide windows for all children and mirrors specifically for black and brown boys.
Q: How did these stories and characters come to your mind?
This story came to mind because these are things I did as a child in my community and continue to do today.
