Q: First tell us something about yourself?
My name is JayCee. I began my writing journey in 2017. Never would I had imagined that I would be the author of several books. I’m still in awe.
Q: How and when did your journey start as a writer?
I remember praying and asking to find my purpose in life. In the midst of finding my purpose, I wanted to find my passion. Here I am, five books later, enjoying creating stories, characters and bringing them to life.
Q: When did you write your first story? Is it published or not?
I wrote my first novel in 2017. It was published in 2018.
Q: Tell us something more about your books?
Run Sparkle Run is about a talented athlete who learns a valuable lesson is hard work and what it takes to be the best! Sparkle goes to Candy Land is Sparkle visiting an amusement park that’s made out of her favorite candies.
Q: Why do you choose kids as your reader ? is there any specific reason?
Writing children’s books allow me to use my imagination and create fictional stories. As a special education teacher, being extremely creative helps my students stay engaged. I get pure joy when my creativity flows. I think as we grow older, we forget how to imagine, we forget how we wanted to be a super hero or be invisible etc. We forgot how to be a kid! Writing children’s books allows me to be a kid again. Besides, who wouldn’t want to ride on an edible chocolate roller coaster?
Q: How did these stories and characters come to your mind?
Sparkle is a reflection of every brown girl who wants to be successful. Sparkle is a bright girl who’s talented, ambitious, & adventurous. She learns sign language from her friend Billy. She learns about different cultures. I want every child to be able to see themselves in Sparkle.
Q: Do you want to leave any message for your readers?
Success doesn’t happen overnight! Greatness takes time, commitment & consistency! If your dreams don’t scare you, you’re not dreaming big enough.
