Q: First tell us something about yourself?
I am new and upcoming author and I enjoy writing children books. All my books are focused on self-love, a positive self-esteem, self-worth and self-image. I started my writing journey with the hopes that I will have a major impact on young children, for them to have my books as a resource.
Q: How and when did your journey start as a writer?
I started writing when I was younger but didn’t start writing books till 2021. My First children’s book is Titled “Little Nikki Her Journey to Self-Love” available in English and Spanish and now I am releasing my second book this Valentine’s Day titled “Ebony and Her Crown.”
Q: When did you write your first story? Is it published or not?
My first book was written sometime in January 2021 and published in October 2021.
Q: Tell us something more about your books?
Ebony and Her Crown is a story about a young toddler with wild and crazy hair and she is uncertain about the nature of hair and then turns to her mother for answers. The poem was written to inspire children to love the skin they’re in. My books bring attention to important topics such as self-esteem. Kids need to see a positive representation of themselves whether it be in a T.V show or the main character of a book. I hope that my books open a dialogue between a parent and their child or a teacher and their children to discuss how their kids truly feel about themselves.
Q: Why do you choose kids as your reader ? is there any specific reason?
Kids need the most guidance and are susceptible to outside influence. A negative self-image could affect how a child socializes with their friends and family and could follow them into their adult years. Social conditioning starts early, and it is our job as adults to ensure that our kids have good role models and positive representation that they can look up to.
Q: How did these stories and characters come to your mind?
For Ebony and Her Crown, it honestly just came to me, I knew I wanted a child with a big afro and a loving mother that she could turn to for answers. I made it a point to make Ebony the child from the story a toddler to show the importance of instilling these core values from a young age.
Q: Do you want to leave any message for your readers?
I want the kids that read my books to know how special and how truly amazing they are. I hope to have a positive impact on them and I hope that my book can open a dialogue with their family so that they feel comfortable expressing how they truly feel about themselves.
