Q: How and when your journey started as a writer?
I’ve always wanted to write a book and 2017 was the right year. My grandson Malik Petite, Jr. was born 7/26/2016 and he inspired me to write a children’s book. I wanted him to know and see that a close family member can achieve goals and not just celebrities on TV to look up to. With faith, hard work and dedication, he can accomplish anything.
Q: When did you write your first story? Is it published or not?
In 2017, my first book, Adventures of Sable Brown was created. It was a long process, because I picked every aspect of the book. I worked well with the illustrator, she saw my vision. My book was published in 2019.
Q: Tell us more about your books?
Adventures of Sable Brown is a learning and magical book. The reader will learn about personal hygiene, eating a healthy breakfast, playing nicely with their siblings and using their imagination is fun.
Q: Why do you choose kids as your reader ? is there any specific reason?
I chose kids as my reader, because children are impressionable, curious and they like to learn. All children have an imagination that they need to use. With my book, the reader will use their imagination and go on a learning experience.
Q: How did these stories and characters come to your mind?
I prayed about my book and the direction I should go, then I started getting specific visions of the details. Everything started coming together.
Q: Do you want to give any message for your readers?
The message I want the reader to get from my book is be kind, happy, independent and helpful, just like Sable Brown. Don’t be afraid to take chances and use your imagination. It is a wonderful thing, because it helps you to be creative, visualize and grow. The imagination can take you on many journey’s.
