Q: First tell us something about yourself.
I’m Victoria C. Richardson, a poet, children’s book author, and creative visionary from Jackson, Alabama. Storytelling has always been my passion, and I am dedicated to creating work that empowers, heals, and connects readers across generations. Through poetry, children’s literature, and journals, I strive to share messages of self-discovery, confidence, and resilience. Beyond writing, I founded The Authors Network, a Facebook community designed to support, encourage, and uplift writers at every stage of their journey. I believe in the power of collaboration and mentorship, and I am committed to helping other authors find their voice while creating a strong literary community.
Q: How and when did your journey start as a writer?
My journey as a writer began at a young age, when I discovered the joy of using words to express emotions and explore the world around me. I began with poetry, which became a way for me to process life, celebrate creativity, and connect with others. My debut poetry book, The Butterfly Effect, marked the start of my professional writing journey, and I have since expanded into children’s literature and guided journals. My work now includes poetry collections such as Lavender Sky and Dark Honey, as well as children’s books like This Is Tori and Colors With Tori. Each project reflects my dedication to inspiring readers, nurturing imagination, and creating spaces where stories can heal, empower, and educate. Writing has not only been a personal journey, but a mission to touch the lives of others through words.
Q: Tell us something more about your book series.
My children’s books are designed to inspire curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love of reading. The Tori series, including This Is Tori and Colors With Tori, follows relatable, imaginative characters who navigate everyday experiences while learning important life lessons. Each story is filled with vibrant illustrations and playful narratives that encourage children to explore, ask questions, and express themselves. I aim for my books to be tools for parents, educators, and caregivers—stories that can spark meaningful conversations, foster creativity, and provide positive reinforcement to young readers. At the heart of my series is the belief that children can learn about themselves and the world in fun, engaging, and empowering ways.
Q: How did you create the magical system in your books and characters?
When creating my characters and the imaginative worlds they live in, I focus on relatability, positivity, and inspiration. My goal is to craft experiences that reflect real-life challenges and triumphs while igniting a child’s imagination. Characters are often inspired by everyday lessons, observations of children’s interactions, and the importance of empathy, curiosity, and creativity. The “magic” in my stories comes from the idea that every child has unique gifts, the ability to problem-solve, and the power to make choices that influence their world. Through storytelling, I hope to teach resilience, self-love, and the value of dreaming boldly, while making the journey enjoyable and memorable for young readers.
Q: Do you want to leave any message for your readers?
Hey friends! Read boldly, dream big, and always believe in your story. Every child can shine, and every story can inspire. Keep being curious, embrace who you are, and let your imagination take you places!
