Q: First tell us something about yourself.
Thank you for featuring us in Kidlio Magazine . We are Leo Oster and Laura Galan. Storytelling is a passion Leo and I share. Being able to create a world from our imagination is a wonderful thing.
Q: How and when did your journey start as a writer?
Our journey as published writers began with five simple words. Let’s do a story about….
Leo wanted to tell a story about a little girl who knew she was smart, she loved nature and drawing robots. But since she had trouble reading and doing math no one could see or recognize her abilities.
Leo’s ideas started on index cards, that became pages, then chapters and the story of Ellie Wants To Be An Engineer evolved.
Our backgrounds greatly influence our writing style and the themes we explore. Leo is a neurodivergent student navigating a neurotypical world. I have a background in Nursing, specializing in Mental Health. Our writing collaboration provides the opportunity for Leo’s impressions and views on the world to be expressed.
Q: When did you write your first story? Is it published or not?
Leo’s lived experience is woven into our story to create relatable and authentic characters. Leo’s love of nature and science has inspired our work.
Q: Tell us something more about your books?
Currently we are in the editing stage of a Christmas story Leo wrote and hope to publish soon.
Q: How did these stories and characters come to your mind?
Leo has a message for young readers. “We all learn differently and that’s okay. But don’t let people underestimate you.”
