Q: First, tell us something about yourself.
Thank you for featuring me in Kidlio Magazine.
I was born in rainy Manchester, UK, but I now reside in sunny Cantabria, Spain, beside a lake surrounded by crows! I share my home with many cats and a dog named Spike. When I’m not writing, I enjoy cycling and playing squash. I’m an award-winning children’s author and have been a primary school teacher for over fifteen years, teaching children in KS2 (ages 7 to 11) the British Curriculum.
Q: How and when did your journey start as a writer?
My writing journey began with a tireless passion for storytelling and a deep love for literature. My affection for children and a desire to create stories that are engaging, educational, and fun have driven me to write stories that children and their families can enjoy together.
Q: When did you write your first story? Is it published or not?
My first book, A Courageous, Clever Crow: Be Different! began as a dedication to my late brother, David. He loved drawing crows in his art book, and I was always amazed by the intricate details and lifelike features he captured. His memory lives on in the character of the Courageous, Clever Crow. This children’s picture book teaches kids that being different isn’t a bad thing at all; in fact, being unique is something to celebrate!
Q: Tell us something more about your books.
I’ve written and published three books in the A Courageous, Clever Crow series: Be Different! Be Happy! and Be Nice! Each book embraces themes of individuality, happiness, and kindness.
The second book is a fun read, especially for those who love an Easter Egg Hunt! This story highlights the joy of Easter, the importance of positivity, and the happiness that comes from sharing and caring for others.
My latest book, Be Nice! is a delightful read-aloud tale about friendship, courage, and showing compassion. The true magic lies in the power of kindness, making it an excellent resource for parents and teachers alike.
Q: How did these stories and characters come to your mind?
My stories are inspired by adventure, memories, and personal experiences, which I draw upon when building characters and themes within each plot.
Q: Do you want to leave any message for your readers?
Yes! Be different, be unique, love yourself for who you are, always be kind, and find joy in the little things in life.
