Q: First tell us something about yourself.
Hi, we are a mother and daughter duo. Claire is in 7th grade, loves softball and hanging out with her friends and family.
I am the mom of two, Connor 14 and Claire 12. I am a clinical social worker providing therapy to young children and their caregivers. I also am the co-founder of a nonprofit that works to increase access to mental health services and training to mental health professionals.
As a family we love to take care of our animals, spend time outside, and play!
Q: How and when did your journey start as a writer?
Our journey as writers started when my sister-in-law and twin brother began their dream to write and publish books. We wanted to support their vision and we love books!
Q: When did you write your first story? Is it published or not?
We wrote our first book in 2022. It is published by MamaBear Books.
Q: Tell us something more about your books.
As a child therapist, I often read books about emotions and coping skills. Young children need support to learn about their feelings and to help feel connected with caregivers. We wanted to create a book for very young children to educate them about feelings in a fun, playful way.
Q: How did these stories and characters come to your mind?
Our small family farm inspired our characters for the book. Bella and Lucy, our pigs are often laying outside in the mud looking so peaceful. When the horses are running in the pasture, they seem so happy. We also wanted kids to be familiar with feelings like disappointed, calm, rowdy, and grouchy. The book provides a great starting point for caregivers to talk about emotions and help young kids learn about their feelings. When kids can label their feelings they are less likely to get overwhelmed by them.
Q: Do you want to leave any message for your readers?
Enjoy this book! This is a fun way to learn feelings, talk about animals, and connect. I hope this book fosters a love for reading and kids ask to read it over and over!
