Q: First tell us something about yourself.
Greetings! My name is Steve and I am a former multi-award winning Writer and Director for Disney Channel, Cartoon Network, (and just about every other network you can think of). I am an intensely curious person, with a lot of interests, from science to art to health and most of all, animals. I love dogs and cats, which makes me something of an oddity, I guess. I’m a little bit shy, but I also love to laugh with friends. But my real passion is silly, absurd, hilarious stories for kids…
Q: How and when did your journey start as a writer?
I first wrote professionally while still in college. Through a friend, I wrote comedy skits for the local morning radio show. It was a ton of fun, and I knew that I would be a writer for the rest of my life.
Q: When did you write your first story? Is it published or not?
My first kids story was called Petey Linguini. I wrote it in my first year of college. I never did anything with it. But now, I’m dusting it off and giving it a polish. Maybe we will see it out in the world one day!
Q: Tell us something more about your books.
My books are fun for kids to read, because the focus is on silly situations and goofy characters that are simply designed to entertain. There is usually a nice message in there that parents can get behind, too, but that is never the focus. Laughter and joy is the goal.
Q: How did these stories and characters come to your mind?
Weirdly, they spring to mind almost fully formed from something someone says and I see something and I just go “ooh! That would make a great kids book!” And then I start working on it, putting pieces together and seeing what sticks. I’ll rewrite a few times and “Viola!” a kids book filled with laughter.
Q: Do you want to leave any message for your readers?
Just like us parents, kids need entertainment. My goal in life is keep creating books that make kids giggle and re-read over and over again.
