All of my work centers around building connections with viewers and readers through subjects that build emotional intelligence and awareness. I think a lot of that comes from the way I’ve always experienced the world. I’ve always been a very sensitive and perceptive person—not sensitive simply in the sense of being easily affected, but in the sense that I notice things. I notice subtleties in people, in conversations, in what is said and what isn’t said. I can walk away from a seemingly ordinary interaction and find myself thinking about something small that happened in it, wondering what was underneath it or what that person might have been feeling.

Hummer & The Boy is a beautifully illustrated story about friendship, devotion, love, and the bonds that remain with us throughout our lives.

When a young boy named Emmett encounters a solitary migratory Canada goose along the lakeshore near his home, he feels an immediate connection to the unusual bird. Naming him Hummer, Emmett returns to the lake again and again, and over the years, a remarkable friendship takes root. As seasons pass and Hummer faithfully returns, the goose becomes a steady presence through childhood, adolescence, and the many changes that accompany growing up.

Tony Cointreau grew up in the wealthy Cointreau liqueur family, but it was in volunteering at Gift of Love, Mother Teresa’s hospice for those dying from AIDS in New York City, that he found a way to fulfill his deeply felt need to be of service. In the long friendship he developed with Mother Teresa, she became like another mother to him, spending precious private time with him when she was in New York or he was volunteering at her Home for the Dying in Calcutta.

Hi! I’m E.M. Wynne, a children’s author, speech-language pathologist, and founder of Yellow Rocket Press. I live in Sacramento, California, and I’ve spent much of my professional life working with communication and language.
