I am the youngest of six siblings in a loving family of second-generation Jamaican Guatemalans. I am an anesthesiologist who has chosen to specialize in pediatric anesthesia. As a graduate of Yale Medical School of Medicine, I have extensive experience in academia and private practices including dental clinics and my love and joy of working with kids has allowed me the great fortune to participate in multiple volunteer medical missions internationally: Guatemala, Colombia, Thailand, and Kenya. I am always fascinated by kids innate ability to dive in and fully experience what is presented to them; Their attentiveness, curiosity, and eagerness to learn and fully experience life’s events are the foundation that inspires my intention to fuel their imagination with age-appropriate adventure to introduce them and help them prepare to receive anesthesia and other medical procedures.

April also brings the festive spirit of Easter, a time for family, fun, and hope. Whether you’re painting eggs in dazzling colors, participating in thrilling egg hunts, or savoring delicious chocolate treats, Easter is all about spreading joy and kindness.

I grew up in Newport News, Virginia, and moved to Atlanta, Georgia, after graduating from college. My vast education and experience highlights specialties in subjects spanning corporate communication and marketing, educational leadership and curriculum and instruction. I am an educator by profession, having taught at a number of schools in the U.S. along with a variety of countries — spending a decade as an elementary school teacher. I have taught at an international school in Qatar, an all-girls American International school in Dubai, and an American International Baccalaureate school in China.

I’m Bolaji Ajayi, and I’m passionate about storytelling, especially when it comes to showcasing African culture through the lens of adventure, strength, and heroism. I’m the author of the Akiti the Hunter series, which introduces readers to Africa’s first superhero. Aside from writing, I’m a mother, an advocate for diverse representation in literature, and someone who strongly believes that every child deserves to see themselves reflected in the stories they read.
